Questrade trading journal

Export your account activity, drop the file in once, and read your Questrade trading back as an equity curve, a calendar and your own written notes.

In short

Export your Questrade account activity to CSV from the Reports page, then drop that file onto Import & Export in sizeforzero. Your fills become positions with an equity curve, calendar P&L and your own notes attached. Questrade has no automatic sync here yet — CSV import is the supported path, and it is free forever.

How do I import Questrade trades into a journal?

Export your account activity from Questrade as a CSV, open Import & Export in sizeforzero, choose the account to import into, set Exported from to Questrade, drop the file and press Import trades. Buys and sells are paired into positions; deposits, dividends and transfers are ignored.

In Questrade

  1. Sign in to Questrade and open the Reports page from the top navigation.
  2. Choose “Go to transaction history”.
  3. Pick the date range you want — Questrade offers one, three and six months, year-to-date, or a custom range.
  4. Download the report as CSV. Questrade also offers PDF; the journal reads CSV.

Questrade reshuffles its web layout from time to time. If the wording has moved, you are looking for any export of your account activity in CSV form — that is the file we read.

In sizeforzero

  1. Sign in and open Import & Export.
  2. Choose the account to import into, or create one — “Questrade TFSA” is a fine name.
  3. Set “Exported from” to Questrade so the columns map themselves.
  4. Drag the CSV onto the drop zone, or tap to browse for it.
  5. Set the import window if you only want recent trades rather than everything.
  6. Press Import trades. You are told how many landed, how many were skipped as already imported, and anything that needs a second look.

Stocks and single-leg options can sit in the same file. Non-trade rows — dividends, interest, deposits, withdrawals and transfers — are recognised and left out, because they are not trades.

Does sizeforzero sync with Questrade automatically?

No — not today. Questrade trades arrive by CSV. Automatic daily sync is live for Wealthsimple, and more native broker connections are on the roadmap. Until Questrade is one of them, the honest answer is that you export a file and drop it in, which takes about a minute.

We would rather say this on the page than let you find it out after signing up. Today the only broker with an automatic daily connection is Wealthsimple — see the Wealthsimple trade journal page for how that works. Everything else, Questrade included, comes in by CSV.

The CSV path is not a lesser one. It reads the same file you would download for your accountant, it maps Questrade’s own column names, and it takes about a minute a week.

What does the Questrade CSV need to contain?

Questrade’s own transaction-history export is already the right shape — transaction date, action, symbol, quantity, price, commission, currency and description. Pick Questrade in the Exported from list and nothing needs reshaping. Any other CSV works too, as long as it carries date, symbol, side, quantity and price.

Multi-leg option strategies, futures and crypto are not supported. Single-leg calls and puts are, with strike, expiration and right tracked on every contract.

If you hold a US-dollar position inside a Canadian-dollar account, the currency travels with the position rather than being flattened into the account currency. Terms like expectancy, R multiple and profit factor each have a plain-English entry in the glossary, linked from an (i) icon everywhere they appear.

What happens if I import the same Questrade file twice?

Nothing is written twice. Every upload is fingerprinted, so re-importing a file you already imported adds no trades and says so plainly. If you export an overlapping date range, set the import window to the period you want — and undo the whole import in one click within 24 hours.

Import correctness is the part we are most stubborn about: every trade lands once, no phantom positions, no invented fills. A sell that has no matching buy — because the buy predates your export — is not guessed at. It waits in your Inbox until you add the missing side, so your win rate is never quietly wrong.

Can I keep my TFSA, RRSP and margin accounts separate?

Yes. Create one journal account per Questrade account and import each export into its own. Every screen reads per account or across all of them. Positions can be held in USD, CAD, GBP, EUR, AUD, JPY or CHF, so a US-dollar trade inside a Canadian account keeps its own currency.

More on registered accounts, CAD and USD side by side, and Canadian tax record-keeping on the trading journal for Canadian traders page. Before the trade, the position size calculator works out share count from your account size, your risk percentage, your entry and your stop.

What does a Questrade trading journal cost?

The journal is free forever — unlimited trades, every account, CSV in and out, full analytics, the equity curve and calendar P&L, with no credit card. Pro is CA$20 a month or CA$200 a year (US$15 or US$150) and turns the AI always-on, after a 30-day free trial.

Free is the whole journal, not a trial of it. Pro adds a daily reflection, a Sunday letter written from your week, a read on every position you open and a monthly digest — all built from the notes you wrote yourself. Full breakdown on the pricing page.

Is my Questrade data private?

Yes. A CSV import never touches your Questrade login — you hand over no password and we never connect to your brokerage account. Your notes are yours: never sold, never used to train models. PIPEDA and CCPA compliant, sign-in is a magic link, and your whole book exports as CSV.

Built solo in Canada, hosted on Google Cloud, encrypted in transit and at rest. There is no lock-in: your full book downloads as CSV whenever you want it, including the columns needed to re-import it cleanly somewhere else.
