Wealthsimple trade journal

Connect once, read-only. Your fills arrive on their own, and the journal turns them into an equity curve, a calendar and a written read of the notes you wrote.

In short

Connect Wealthsimple once from the Connections page. The link is read-only, so fills, positions and accounts flow in and no order can ever be placed. Your trades refresh at least once a day without you touching a file, and the journal builds the equity curve, calendar P&L and analytics from them.

How does the Wealthsimple sync work?

Open Connections, choose Wealthsimple, and sign in on Wealthsimple’s own page — we never see your password. Your accounts and executed trades are pulled in, then refreshed on a schedule at least once a day. There is a Sync now button if you would rather not wait.

What connecting actually looks like

  1. Sign in and open Connections.
  2. Choose Wealthsimple. A secure window opens on Wealthsimple’s own sign-in page.
  3. Authorise read-only access there. Your password is entered on their page, never ours.
  4. Your accounts appear as journal accounts, each named for what it is, and your executed trades are pulled in.
  5. From then on it refreshes on its own. Every connection shows when it last synced, with a Sync now button beside it.

Nothing here is clock-driven at you. The journal refreshes quietly in the background and shows you what changed when you next open it — no nagging, no streak to break.

Is the Wealthsimple connection read-only?

Yes. The link can read positions and executions and nothing else. It cannot place, cancel or modify an order, cannot move money, and cannot see or store your Wealthsimple password. A journal has no business touching your broker, so it does not.

The connection is brokered by SnapTrade, a SOC-2 audited aggregator, so your credentials are handled by Wealthsimple’s own login screen and never reach us. Every connected broker row carries a read-only badge, and disconnecting takes one click.

What about trades from before I connected?

Broker history reaches back only so far, so older trades come in the same way as any other broker’s: a CSV drop on the Import & Export page. Import the older file once, keep the connection running for everything after it, and the two sit in one book.

The CSV walkthrough is written out step by step on the Questrade trading journal page — the same Import & Export screen reads a Wealthsimple export, with a Wealthsimple preset in the “Exported from” list.

Re-uploading a file you have already imported adds nothing: every upload is fingerprinted, so trades land once. Any import can be undone in one click within 24 hours, and a sell with no matching buy waits in your Inbox rather than being guessed at.

Does it handle my TFSA, RRSP and US-dollar holdings?

Yes. Each connected account arrives named for what it is — Wealthsimple - TFSA, Wealthsimple - RRSP, Wealthsimple - Non-registered — and every screen reads per account or across all of them. Positions can be held in USD, CAD, GBP, EUR, AUD, JPY or CHF.

A US-dollar position inside a Canadian-dollar account keeps its own currency instead of being flattened. More on registered accounts and Canadian record-keeping on the trading journal for Canadian traders page.

Does it track Wealthsimple options trades?

Single-leg calls and puts, yes — with strike, expiration and right on every contract, alongside your stock trades in one book. Multi-leg option strategies, futures and crypto are not supported today. That is a real limit, not a soon-to-ship one.

Every metric the journal shows you — expectancy, R multiple, profit factor, drawdown — carries an (i) icon that opens a plain-English definition, and all of them are readable straight through in the glossary. Before you enter, the position size calculator sizes the trade from your stop rather than your hope.

What does a Wealthsimple trading journal cost?

Nothing for the journal itself. Unlimited trades, every account, the Wealthsimple sync, full analytics, calendar P&L and CSV in and out are free forever, with no credit card. Pro is CA$20 a month or CA$200 a year (US$15 or US$150), after a 30-day free trial.

Free is the whole journal, not a trial of it. Pro turns the AI always-on: a daily reflection on what you closed, a Sunday letter written from your week, a read on every position you open, and a monthly digest — each one built from notes you wrote yourself, never sold and never used to train a model. Full breakdown on the pricing page.

Can I disconnect and take my data with me?

Any time, in one click. Disconnecting stops the sync and leaves every trade already in your journal exactly where it is. Your whole book downloads as CSV whenever you want it. Your notes are never sold and never used to train models.

Sign-in is a magic link, so there is no password to leak. PIPEDA and CCPA compliant, built solo in Canada, hosted on Google Cloud with encryption in transit and at rest.

Wealthsimple and Questrade, side by side

The same journal, two different ways trades get in. Wealthsimple is the broker with an automatic connection today; every other broker, Questrade included, imports by CSV.
